Gray Area

Can we all take a minute to appreciate this Texas weather?! When I woke up this morning it was
68 degrees! Now if you live in or are from here you know this cute little 68 degrees is much appreciated. As most people I am so excited about Fall -jackets, sweat shirts, boots *screams*! When it comes to style there's just so much more you can do during F/W. One thing I can't wait to do is layer! Layering isn't something I've done a lot in the Fall but I think I'll take a jab at it and see how I do? I wanted my first look to be gray on gray layering -I think the gray really compliments the brown (sigh) I'm so ready for Fall!

Girl Gone Minimalist

I know what I want to wear. But ugh, just too much going on in my closet! I've loved fashion since about the ninth grade and styling myself has been extremely easy for me until about a year ago. In my head I knew what I wanted to wear but felt like I didn't have the material I needed to pull off the look. I became bored of just about all the clothes in my closet --so I went shopping. I've noticed that I like to wear a simple crew neck tee, a pair of jeans and a simple statement shoe -key word "simple". Loud things annoy me and make me feel like I'm trying too hard. Throwing a denim jacket over a simple look is enough for me. I've also been paying attention to the color wheel and noticing what colors work well and play off of each other.

I'm currently loving blush pinks, tan, army green, burnt orange, gray, and denim of course. These shades are very calming and easy to style without doing too much. As I continued to scroll down Instagram and YouTube I noticed that there's a name for this sort of style -minimalist. Who knew?! Well I'm sure everyone did, but me! I noticed quite a bit of people are minimalists so for me that means, put your OWN twist to it. The reason I love style over fashion is because people with style are not cookie cutter to the next person. Where as with fashion everyone looks the same. Another thing I've noticed with minimalists EVERY look is tans and pinks, etc. I will not be wearing the same colors with every look. To me that's how your look becomes old, boring, and predictable. Of course there will still be all black from head to toe, color blocking when necessary and white after Labor Day. It just depends on my mood honey!

What street styles are you currently loving and will be applying to your wardrobe?!

Lets Talk Personal Hygiene

I'm big on me time --a glass of wine while I binge watch my favorite shows, with a candle lit --just me and 'Being Mary Jane'. As good as that sounds I wanted to take a different approach for "me time" --behind the scenes. What goes on before I walk to my little homemade wine bar. Before I slide off my Nike slides (because I'm OCD and feel like shoes shouldn't be on the rug in front of the couch). Before I recline my side of the sofa and pick up the remote. Lets rewind to when we first walk through the door after a long days (fitness, errands, the kids football practice, work, etc.) Throw all of your clothes that reek of outside, the produce aisle in Walmart, and old deodorant that you applied before leaving the house this morning. Time to wash off the days mess...

Here are my top four personal hygiene products at the moment:

FDS Baby Powder Feminine Deodorant Spray, 2 oz

Caress Daily Silk Body Wash, 18 oz

Degree MotionSense Sheer Powder Dry Spray Anti-Perspirant, 3.8 oz

Jergens Orginal Cherry Almond Moisterizer 21oz

5 Tips To Center Your Life

At times on Monday's I struggle to get back to the flow of things --well not necessary only on Monday's. We all get into a funk or we simply have writers block, thinking "how does other bloggers come up with content?", "stay up beat?", etc. As important as it is to create a deadline for yourself it becomes a bit overwhelming when the deadline starts to creep up on you. I begin to panic in a way and lose my peace and balance. Here's three ways to help you stay centered..

  1. GOALS: Refer back to your list of goals. (If you don't have a list umm, yeah what are you waiting for?!)
  2. MEDITATE: In a quiet space, clear your mind, take deep breathes, calm yourself.
  3. TO-DO LIST: To-Do lists always keeps me balance. The satisfaction of checking off tasks as you go will leave you feeling accomplished. A productive day is a good day!
  4. PAMPER: It's not all about work, make time to pamper yourself. I like to take time to go to my favorite nail shop to get my nails done. Buying yourself something you've been wanting or just something you like is always important.
  5.  BALANCE: As much as we feel there's not enough hours in the day to finish all the things we have to do, remember never do too much of one thing. If you have cleaning around the house, fitness, working on that short term goal, etc., give a little bit attention to it all -in a balanced way of course. Learn how to manage your time and you'll be fine.

I hope these five tips helped you in some way.

4 Ways To Peace

With everything we have going on through out our day to everything that's going on in the world -we all need to take time for ourselves, take a moment to breathe and find peace. Peace can be whatever you feel - from meditation to fitness (yes there's people out there who exercise to clear their mind - I know strange right?!) Here are my top four things I do to find peace..

A good R&B or Jazz album is always peaceful for me.

This is my favorite book, the movie was good too.

'The Intern', one of my favorite movies. DeNiro and Hathaway work well together.

While lying in bed at night I listen to Nature Sounds on Pandora - the water is very relaxing.

What peaceful things do you do?

Shades of Blue

Back in the day I would've paired a printed shoe with everyone's favorite, denim. But I decided to go with a solid shoe that could stand alone without overpowering the look. Of course my favorite, a good pair of Loafers. The smoking Loafer is the perfect shoe hands down! They go with everything from jeans, to trousers, even sweat pants -yes sweat pants! I wanted a very relaxed look -a simple crew neck, a pair of shorts and allow my shoes, purse, and jacket to do the talking. A choker and a statement purse such as this navy blue leather clutch with gold accents gives this look the extra umph I need to not be basic. LOL

What I'm Wearing:

Jacket: Thrift Store
Crew Neck: Walmart
Shorts: C.C Hughes
Choker: Love Culture
Clutch: Thrift Store
Loafers: H&M
Lips: Milan - Matte Beauty

Are you in love with denim like me or are you past that trend?!

Overlooked?

Currently feeling a bit overlooked in the blogosphere. As hard as I am on myself I think I put out great content (always room for improvement) -yet still overlooked. As much as I know what we see online from other bloggers, etc. is their "right now", we didn't see their "before". What it looks like at the moment isn't how it always was and we all have a beginning. I've only received a total of 8 page views this week and I'm trying to figure out what I can do to increase my views. Despite feeling a little down today I'm keeping in mind "my time will come" as long as I continue to do my part.  We all must keep in mind what "my part" is: Post frequently, stay two steps ahead of yourself, and stay in your own lane (focus on what's ahead of you and the things you need to accomplish. Focus not on what the next person is doing.)

My 5 emotional minutes are up, back to the grind!

With whatever you're doing in life hang in there.

Love,
Sloan

Under $30?! Yes please! Bills due? Back to college? Trying to figure out why your job pays a certain amount an hour like you can really live off that? Then this post is for you! I love a good bargain and you feel like you won the lottery when it's at your favorite store! I believe most people think of H&M, ASOS, etc. as expensive, but if you're a good bargain shopper with a good eye you can find cool pieces that are in your price range (at most stores at least). Be sure to keep in mind to take your time --browse around the store/online and find KEY pieces that will make your look pop! I've also added a few things in this post that aren't wardrobe related -the great, timeless album of Leon Bridges. Now if you're into Sam Cooke and Otis Redding then you'll love Leon. Turn on your record player and grab a glass of wine for some much needed me time. Hope you all found a good bargain on this post.

5 Things Blogging Has Taught Me

  1. Consistency - It's always important to be dedicated with whatever you're doing -whether it be blogging or an artist of some sort. Come up with a schedule without announcing it to the world, just to be sure you're able to stick to it. Once you adjust your life around your schedule then you can let your readers know on what days you'll be posting new content.
  2. Patience - I find this one to be most important, especially when you're still in the slow stages of blogging. You want to give people a chance to notice you -but most importantly make them notice you! (Post new content after new content, share that new content on twitter/Instagram/etc., and sit back and be patient)
  3. Authentic - One of the most important things in life in general is to be real. I love people who have an opinion, outspoken, and are passionate about what they do. Be real in your content -have an opinion and stick with it!
  4. Ahead of The Game - I've noticed that I'll come up with content and then three days later I'm lost on what to post next, causing me to fall behind on my schedule. So I told myself to always be two steps ahead of myself. After I post a style O.O.T.D start thinking about my next look. If I post an inspirational read think of my next blog post that would make a good read.
  5. Humble - As much as you feel like everyone should visit your blog, read your content, have thousands of followers, etc., etc., No matter how talented you are at what you do remain humble and refer back to number two - be patient. Keep in mind your time will come! I don't have a lot of followers on social media, there's a few people who read my posts, I don't get many likes on social media - but my time will come. And when YOUR TIME arrives -remain humble.

What have you learned from blogging?

5 Tips of Well Being

Tons to do around the house, waking up early in the morning, college, preparing the kids for school, etc. Whatever it is that you do on a day to day bases it's important to find balance/peace -if not you'll go crazy.

Here are a few tips to keep you from going insane..
  1. Meditate - Going into a quiet room alone  and clearing your mind of the days chaos is always a good idea.
  2. Literature - Reading is an easy way to calm your day. I'm not saying go out and pick up a giant Stephen King novel -a magazine will work just fine as well.
  3. Whine down - For some this consist of reclining with some sort of drink (tea, wine, or a fruit detox water). I like to listen to Jazz or some old school music ( Al Green, Anita Baker, The Whispers, to name a few) with a glass of wine (tea during the day).
  4. Lists - Writing to-do lists are extremely helpful for clearing out everything in your head. I personally enjoy making lists, they help me remember all the things I need to do. I write them on sticky notes and in my phone as well using the app One Note. To-do lists will make your day feel productive.
  5. Me Time - Now let's discuss the essential -me time. Enjoy your favorite show (Being Mary Jane) with a glass of wine and kick your feet up, take yourself to lunch or to see a film, do some much needed retail therapy, etc.

Remember it's all about balance.

What are some ways you go about having a balanced/healthy life?
